Michael Cytrynowicz, MDes PhD was born in Brazil, where he studied Biology and Pedagogy, and was for several years a Professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, conducting research and teaching Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. In the early 90’s Michael relocated to the United States, and took up Graphic Design and Computer Graphics (UCLA, Art Center College of Design), and later Interaction Design, graduating with a Master of Design in Interaction design from Carnegie Mellon University - the first person in the USA to obtain this degree. Michael has worked as an Interaction and User Experience Designer in companies large and small, in different countries, including Informatica, Cloudera, Oracle and Nortel, as is currently at the Security Software startup Respond-Software in Mountain View, California. He has also lived five years in Barcelona, where he taught design at the Elisava School of Design, and was a researcher on Information Design in Public Spaces for the European Commission. Michael loves traveling and meeting new people, and he also has a lifelong interest in photography and painting. He lives in San Jose with his wife, has two married daughters and four grandchildren.
